the duck story

when benjamin & i went down to the river this morning, he noticed three ducks swimming our way. This is unusual, maybe the 4th time in a year that ducks have come by, and none of the ones before were interested in visiting, but these clearly were, so i ran up and got some bread. I soon noticed that one of the ducks was acting strangely and had trouble reaching bread even very near him. Then i saw... he had a fishing hook in his mouth, and the line was tangled around him, so that he could barely move his neck. I lured him near, and picked him up out of the water. We took him in to the house, & i called my mom to see if she could come over and help.( did & we were able to remove the hook from the incredibly patient and still duck. When we took him back to the river he was excited to eat more bread and then got in the water and swam around making wide loops back to us quacking loudly the whole time. (he hadn't been able to quack with the hook binding his beak to his neck... only peep) "I have never been thanked so profusely by an animal!l, laughed my mom. And it was true. that duck said thank you about as clearly as any animal could. what a good morning!
